Ninety percent of Middle East refugees on Food Stamps in U.S.

Refugees survive with government assistance.

Data shows more than 90 percent of refugees from the Middle East survive via food stamps, while 70 percent receive government cash assistance, according to the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).

MUNTINLUPA CITY, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online)-  As reported by Sen. Jeff Sessions, the chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest, 91.4 percent of the Middle East's refugees accepted in the U.S. received food stamps. Seventy-three point one percent of these are on Medicaid or Refugee Medical Assistance and 68.3 percent were on cash welfare assistance.

Other Middle Eastern refugees have received assistance from other government programs at lower rates. The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families gave assistance to 36.7 percent of the refugees, 32.1 percent receives from Supplemental Security Income, 19.7 percent are living in public housing, 17.3 percent were on General Assistance and 10.9 percent received RCA -Refugee Cash Assistance.
The Obama administration has received an increasing number of refugees from the Middle East and has immediately provided them with public benefits -particularly Syrian refugees. Most of these refugees came from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey and Yemen.

According to staff notes, the U.S. has already admitted a total of 115,617 refugees from 2008 to 2013. A total of 10,026 of these refugees have been granted asylum. The U.S. gave 308,805 green cards to immigrants from the Middle Eastern countries and are now Lawful Permanent Residents, eligible to apply for citizenship in five years and even petition family members to come to the U.S.
America has taken roughly 20 percent of the world's international migrants and holds 5 percent of the global population. Presently, 1 in 4 U.S. resident is now either an immigrant or is the child of immigrant parents. 
Another 14 million immigrants are expected to enter the U.S. by 2025. The increasing number of migrants in the U.S. is already starting to raise concerns from native citizens.
