LOS ANGELES, CA (NEWS CONSORTIUM) - Pro-Life/Anti-abortion activists have praised Governor Perry's pledge to use federal government powers to halt abortions. The pledge is written to promise that a candidate will appoint pro-life/anti-abortion judges to the Supreme Court and other  cabinet and executive branch positions, defund Planned Parenthood, and support changes in existing laws that will reduce or stop abortions altogether.

The pledge is written and supported by the Susan B. Anthony fund and has been signed by other presidential hopefuls including Mitt Romney, Jon Huntsman, and Herman Cain.

Perry has recently caused some concern among pro-lifers when he explained that if Roe v. Wade were overturned, that he would leave the matter up to individual states. His pledge is now expected to supersede that statement.

The Susan B. Anthony Fund plans to raise $14 million this election cycle and will use that money to promote anti-abortion candidates and legislation that will block funding for Planned Parenthood. A bus tour is being planned by the Fund and the group reports that it is growing in conservative parts of the country, particularly in Iowa, South Carolina, and New Hampshire.

Fellow Republican contender Mitt Romney has not yet signed the pledge. Romney has refused on the grounds that it could be misconstrued as disrupting funding for hospitals and it could limit his choices for government appointments. Romney has stated publicly that he is opposed to abortion, despite his reluctance to sign the pledge.

Self Styles "experts" have apparently suggested that Romney does not need to sign the pledge if he wins the Republican nomination, since his declared stance against abortion is still better than Obama's overt support of the practice.
